Julie is a star player at an elite tennis academy. When her coach is investigated and suddenly suspended, all the players in the club are encouraged to speak out. But Julie decides to remain silent.. 'Best International Feature Film' category at the 97th Academy Awards in 2025.. This is truly a small masterpiece executed to perfection. The cinematography, acting, editing, setting and the sparse use of music – everything comes together seamlessly. It feels effortless, revealing how much love and effort has gone into it. There is a natural blend of Flemish and French that is not seen in Belgian cinema. But this is exactly what the children of the wealthy communities around Brussels speak. Yes, they don’t all struggle with German. This film is so subtle that even the verb in the title doesn’t balance it out. Simply ‘Julie’ would have been enough. But each bounce of the tennis ball feels like dynamite straight out of Clouseau’s ‘Wedges of Fear’.
